Autumn starts exciting in BICHA Gallery, thanks to an exhibition and an art book launch who bring foreign artists and new creative approaches to the British public.
Since late last week, Marc Bellini takes us to the roots and charm of photography with his exhibition “Photo Booth”.
Automatic photography, looked through the spectrum of art, not commodity, unfolds to reveal endless new possibilities in capturing thoughts and notions. A means of creation that has attracted the attention and challenged the likes of Andy Warhol and Helmut Newton in the past.
Taking further this precious art-meets-technology heritage, Parisian artist Marc Bellini himself -a graduate of the Ecole Superieure Nationale des Arts Decoratifs with a Masters in Cinema from the Sorbonne University- has been exploring the creative appliances of the automatic photo booth for the last 16 years, which has resulted into creating his own narrative technique through automatic film sequences.
BICHA Gallery is the place to see his work in London until the 29th September, before Bellini and his “Booth” move to yet another country, for his upcoming exhibition at the Musee de l’Elysse in Lauzanne, Switzerland.
Second but not least, BICHA reserves a grande finale for September to further excite the lovers of the arts.
The gallery will host the UK launch of a book that celebrates the life and work of Botswanan artist Dada (Coex Ae Qgam) on the 30th September.
Dada, who passed away in 2008, having already worked on her biography book with writers Ann Gollifer and Jenny Egner since 2002, was the 1st female artist in Botswana to represent her people and country worldwide. She was a Naro artist, story-teller and dancer. The biography tells her story in her own words, prints and paintings.
BICHA Gallery will simultaneously be exhibiting new work by Ann Mary Gollifer from her series entitled Living on an Horizon, 6.30 – 8.30 pm 30 September 2011. This series of large format paintings deal with colour, space and expansiveness is an attempt to capture the Botswana skies and Ann’s love affair with the horizon.
