It’s wintertime and that means two things: number one, the temperature is dropping, and number two, our wardrobes need to match the weather. Men’s winter fashion is all about looking good and keeping warm at the same time. This season, the common themes for cold weather fashions are sophisticated and tailored looks.

A warm sweater is a great stylish choice for the chilly months. Chunky cable knits are comfortable, cozy, and always classy. They can be worn with slacks and a nice jacket or with a pair of dark jeans and leather boots. Keep in mind that cable knit sweaters work best in neutral colors like grays, tans, browns.

For a more casual sweater, the v-neck cardigan is very much in fashion. Cardigans are wonderful for trendy layering. They can be worn over striped or plaid button-down shirts for a look perfectly tailored for work or a get-together at the local coffee shop. Another option is to layer a v-neck cardigan over a nice turtleneck, creating a warm and toasty outfit for all the holiday parties this season.

Everyone needs a snug and smart coat for winter. Sheepskin shearling is the biggest fashion trend in men’s jackets this year. Adding real and faux shearling trims to a winter jacket can create a cozy and classic affect. Shearling is being used to adorn cuffs, pockets, and collars. Bomber jackets and long trench coats are very popular styles for the colder months and many designers are offering their own versions of these outerwear options complete with the trendy shearling trims.

As far as accessories go, a great scarf can pull a whole winter outfit together. From three piece suits to corduroy blazers to cotton pullovers, scarves really can go with anything and everything. Oversized knit scarves are perfect for the casual and urban look. They are earthy, cozy, and slightly bohemian. For a more traditional fashion, tartan is always in style. Tartan and plaid patterned scarves can be found in worsted wool, cashmere, and even silk; so they look great whether you are dressed up for a date or down for the weekend.

Boots are another winter fashion favorite. The hottest boot style this season is the Chelsea boot. The Chelsea boot is simple, practical and has an edgy quality to it while still being very sleek. These boots generally don’t have buttons or laces; instead they often have a subtle elastic band at the side. Chelsea boots, also known as dealer or worker boots, work well with both smart and casual looks. Contemporary designs may feature buckles, fashionable stitching, or shearling and tartan trims. These ankle-length boots come in all colors and are usually crafted in suede and leather, making them the perfect addition for cold weather wardrobes.
