Most interesting collections from Rio Fashion Week Winter 2012

Although Rio Fashion Week is known not to be as exciting as the one in Sao Paulo, it is still an interesting place to spot new and emerging talents in fashion, as well as inspiring collections from Brazil.

This season I was impressed by the work of Aquastudio. The brand was inspired by 40s’ and 50s’ fashion, giving it a contemporary twist with the use of pop aqua and coral colors and the imposing plastic constructions worn as futuristic capes over the feminine hourglass volume of the outfits.

I was also surprised by the imaginary concept of Melk Z Da, who was inspired by clay dolls and past time (picture below). The white and pastel pink canvas of fabricsĀ the designer created with, beautifully represent the layers of dust and faded colors of the clothes of his supposed “clay dolls”, whereas the earth brown details state the connection with their raw material; clay. To my mind, this metaphor takes the concept even further as clay the raw material for Adam and Eve, the biblical origin of humans made of water and earth.
