Now in its 5th year, the Dia de Muertos Gala, presented by Mexican-American photographer Carlos Eric Lopez, has become a preminent Los Angeles annual event, honoring Latino culture and community.

The Gala welcomes Latino artists, tastemakers, business leaders, and community organizers, and each year presents the Abuelita Award to a celebrity guest’s grandmother, in line with the holidays’ symbolism of honouring family ancestors.

This year’s event also marked the official launch of TúTomorrow, a nonprofit founded by Carlos Eric Lopez to empower the next generation of Latino creatives and entrepreneurs through grants, mentorship, and community-driven initiatives for emerging talent.

HALLOWEEN VS DIA DE MUERTOS STYLE LOOKS

The extravagant celebrity looks seen at the 5th Dia de Muertos Gala are indicative of the style differences between Halloween and Dia de Muertos dress up outfits.

While Halloween’s style is based on scary and spooky symbols and the macabre, using a dark color palette of black, orange, and blood red, Día de Muertos style is also open to vibrant colors, roses and flowers, and colorful skull symbols, as a joyous celebration of the life and memory of the deceased.

Nonetheless, several celebrities at the Dia de Muertos Gala 2025 did choose classic black for their dress up outfits, like Amanda Diaz who opted for a mystical, figure-hugging see-through lace dress by Dolce and Gabbana with matching accessories.

Dafne Keen also went for black see-through, matching crochet with flower embroideries in blood red and purple.

Most men guests wore total black outfits with velvet or satin details, while Taylor Zakhar Perez dared a floral embroidered striped blazer and skull makeup.
