Soap of Gold

Soap of Gold

Eleni Marneri Gallery presents an one-off series of gold-embellished soap by Dimitra Natural.

Made out of symbolism rather than luxury, this original idea found its roots in ancient texts of Homer’s litterature and the Old Testament.

The prime material for the soap is olive oil, which Homer called “liquid gold”. In an effort to materialize this metaphor in an allegoric and artistic way, Dimitra Natural dressed this “liquid gold” with real gold leaf sheet and also further enhanced it with hyssop aroma, in order to induce a second metaphor into the same product.

Hyssop was linked with the catharsis and purity of the human soul in David’s psalms in the Old Testament. “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow”. This very catharsis of body and soul is the soap of gold’s wish to the recipient for 2012.

The soap of gold series was specially designed by Dimitra Natural for Eleni Marneri Gallery’s Christmas collective exhibition, featuring original creations as unique present ideas for the New Year.

The exhibition opens on the 11th December at noon, with a guest soprano and choir 15 minute performance.
