I was excited to find out that Mawi Keivom, one of my favourite jewellery designers, is re-launching some of her most cherished collection themes, like my precious panther, revamped with new designs and materials, on the occassion of her brand’s tenth anniversary.
To celebrate a decade in providing an innovative approach to luxury jewelry, a Mawi retrospective collection is being released for the A/W 2012 season.
2012, a true milestone has been reached for “Mawi of London”. With 20 collections comprised of over 4,000 styles, Mawi continues to provide luxury items that never fail to tell a vibrant story. The tribute delivers an updated look at the brand’s most iconic, classic themes including Dynasty, Panther, and Punk Rajah. Accompanying the introspective look at the history of Mawi, a third collection of the designer’s latest pieces will continue the conversation.
Neo Panther
The Neo Panther collection embraces Mawi’s timelessly adored panther motif, bringing it to the next level with spiky ears and dashes of unexpected colour. Pieces are updated with eye-catching pops of flouro brights and touches of camouflage. This collection enhances Mawi’s past interpretations of the powerful symbol of feminine allure with pieces encrusted in jet, ruby, and emerald hued gems. From statement earrings literally dripping with clusters of smoky black diamond crystals to emerald and ruby covered watchband bracelets, these revised pieces continue their predecessor’s legacy in both opulence and elegance.
Punk Rajah
Urban glamour is the focus in one of this season’s retrospective Costume selections. Citing past years, Mawi’s love of combined dichotomies are embraced in this second collection of homage that juxtaposes daring spikes with decadent crystals. Designs reappear, this time amped up with an overwhelming sense of palatial grandeur aided by a smokier, more subtle colour palette. Hinting at an iconic age revisited, this line features chokers embedded with huge jewel toned gems and embossed squares of rose gold, spiked hematite drop earrings embedded with jet pearls, and a new take on Mawi’s classic box chain necklace enhanced with brilliant hematite tubes.
Neo Pagan
Introducing a new direction to Mawi’s Costume Luxe line, this theme encapsulates the living mythology of sacred pagan rituals. The boundaries are pushed, however, by stringing together contrasting organic stones with Swarovski crystals set in a clean, modern context. Adorned with striking amethyst prisms asymmetrically set with jet and magenta rounded gemstones, these statement pieces feature beautifully coiled and curled metals in signature rose gold and hematite. This luxury line truly defines Mawi, combining extraordinary architectural composition with mythos. The blending of opposites creates the brand’s most decadent pieces yet.
